The Tanglewood Music Center’s 2023 Festival of Contemporary Music, with events July 27 through July 31, offers concerts dedicated to works from the current musical landscape and landmark 20th-century pieces; conversations with music-makers; and performance opportunities for the Fellows of the Tanglewood Music Center. This year's festival is curated by and features music from four international female composers at the top of the game: Gabriela Lena Frank, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Tebogo Monnakgotla, and Reena Esmail.In January of this year, Ed Gazouleas was named Interim Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Music Center and he joins us.

Two-time Grammy Award winning conductor David Alan Miller is the Music Director of The Albany SymphonyOn March 11 and 12, The Albany Symphony Orchestra will perform its next concerts of the season at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Maria Riccio Bryce a local musician, pianist, and a composer and songwriter. Recently, She felt the urge to write about what she witnessed and learned in all her years - not through the filter of musical theatre - but directly from her heart, mind, and experience. This past January, armed with scoring pencils, 500 blank sheets of paper, and an Artist’s Grant from NYSCA, she began working. Her "Requiem: What Remains is Love" will be performed November 4 at 7 p.m. and on November 6 at 3 p.m. at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in Schenectady.

On Saturday, November 5, The Hudson Valley Philharmonic, with guest Conductor Christine Howlett, will perform Richard Einhorn’s “VOICES OF LIGHT” at The Bardavon in Poughkeepsie, New York. Einhorn’s 1994 composition accompanies a screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 silent film classic “The Passion of Joan of Arc.”

Ted Rosenthal’s jazz opera "Dear Erich" was inspired by letters written in Germany between 1938 and 1941 by Herta Rosenthal to the composer’s father. Dear Erich depicts a family’s dual fates.

Abigail and Shaun Bengson, the celebrated composing and performing duo, known for their acclaimed off-Broadway shows “The Lucky Ones” and “A Hundred Years” will perform at Ancram Opera House’s Circa 1799 Barn tomorrow evening at 6 o’clock.The Bengsons have received the Jonathan Larson and Richard Rogers Awards and nominations for the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Lucille Lortel Awards.The Bengsons' work is often autobiographical. They have a trio of musical theatre pieces titled “Hundred Days,” “The Lucky Ones,” and “Prays from Ohio” that focus on their individual childhoods and their shared love story.

Virtuoso Swedish trumpeter and frequent Boston Symphony Orchestra collaborator Håkan Hardenberger is the beneficiary of a new BSO commissioned concerto from the British composer Helen Grime, a former Tanglewood Music Center Fellow with a dynamic, sparkling compositional style. Andris Nelsons will conduct the piece "Trumpet Concerto: night-sky-blue" on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. along with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise” for orchestra, which closes with the composer’s substantial Symphony No. 3, a late work characterized by scintillating orchestration. The Grime concerto, which is inspired by images of nocturnal gardens, has been commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation, Library of Congress, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
