James Burton was appointed Conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and to the newly created position of BSO Choral Director, in February 2017. He'll return to Tanglewood next week leading the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in a prelude concert at Ozawa Hall and then on August 20, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus will be on a program with The Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra featuring Tippett’s Five Spirituals from “A Child of Our Time” and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the Koussevitzky Music Shed.

On Friday, August 18th, Andris Nelsons will conduct The Boston Symphony Orchestra in a program featuring works by Saint-Saëns, Simon, and Gershwin featuring soloist Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano in The Shed at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts.The “Simon” of those listed composers is Carlos Simon and his piece, “Four Black American Dances,” is a BSO commission. The piece celebrates the composer’s heritage and the presence of dance in Black culture as a medium for ritual, worship, celebration, and social connectivity.

The Tanglewood Music Center’s 2023 Festival of Contemporary Music, with events July 27 through July 31, offers concerts dedicated to works from the current musical landscape and landmark 20th-century pieces; conversations with music-makers; and performance opportunities for the Fellows of the Tanglewood Music Center. This year's festival is curated by and features music from four international female composers at the top of the game: Gabriela Lena Frank, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Tebogo Monnakgotla, and Reena Esmail.In January of this year, Ed Gazouleas was named Interim Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Music Center and he joins us.

Tonight in The Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts, Giancarlo Guerrero conducts Mahler 1st Symphony and “Her Story” by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and Bang on a Can co-founder and co-director, Julia Wolfe."Her Story" was written for Lorelei Ensemble and orchestra, and co-commissioned by the Nashville Symphony, Chicago Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Boston Symphony, and National Symphony Orchestras. Beth Willer is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Lorelei Ensemble and she joins us.

Thomas Wilkins will lead The Boston Symphony Orchestra in two programs at Tanglewood this weekend: Saturday’s “BSO Family Concert: May I Have Your Attention Please” at 10:30 a.m., and Sunday’s Berkshire Day concert at 2 p.m., featuring music by Coleridge-Taylor, Ellington, and mandolinist Jeff Midkiff. The concert on Sunday is Tanglewood’s annual Berkshire Day performance - residents of Berkshire County may attend for free.

This Saturday, July 8 at 8 p.m. at Tanglewood, The Boston Pops performs “Ragtime: The Symphonic Concert,” prepared by the original creators Terrence McNally, Lynn Ahrens, and Stephen Flaherty especially for the Pops.Keith Lockhart conducts and the vocal cast joining the pops features Broadway stars Alton Fitzgerald White, Elizabeth Stanley, Nikki Renée Daniels, David Harris, and John Cariani -- who joins us now – along with "Ragtime: The Symphonic Concert '' stage director, Jason Danieley. Both Cariani and Danieley are well known on Broadway and Berkshire stages.
