Berkshire Theatre Group presents "Dracula" at The Colonial Theatre through 8/27

The Berkshire Theatre Group is presenting a new production on "Dracula” at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, Massachusettes through August 27. Based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel of gothic horror and directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award Winner, David Auburn, “Dracula” has been striking fear into the hearts of people around the world for over a hundred years. To learn more – we welcome actors Mitchell Winter who plays Dracula, and Nomè SiDone who plays Jonathan Harker.

    The mission of the Aston Magna Foundation in Great Barrington, MA is to enrich the appreciation of music of the past through the use of historical instruments and practices in performances, recordings, and workshops, and through innovative interdisciplinary educational programs, publications, and electronic media. Aston Magna’s 2022 Summer Festival begins this weekend with two musical/theatrical works that feature the struggle between personifications of good and evil: Scarlatti’s “Humanity and Lucifer” (1706) and Stravinsky’s Faustian “The Soldier’s Tale” (1918). Daniel Stepner is Artistic Director of Aston Magna and he joins us to preview this weekend’s concerts and the season on the whole.

With the name change – the organization wanted to give focus to the town, the community, and make sure the theater as a whole encompasses its two buildings, Weston Playhouse and Walker Farm, rather than just one. Weston will present productions at Weston Playhouse and the more intimate Walker Farm. And to celebrate the occasion, all five shows this season will be familiar to most theater lovers. The season includes exclusive first looks at new drafts of cutting-edge titles that have generated major buzz throughout American theater. First up is: “The Chinese Lady” – running through June 26th - fresh from a sold-out run at NYC’s Public Theater, this show is quickly becoming one of the most widely produced plays in America. Miriam Weisfeld is producing artistic director of Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls, NY and is presenting her first ATF season.

    Dorset Theatre Festival - 2022 Season Preview

    Dorset Theatre Festival in Dorset, VT will open the 45th Season of professional summer theatre at the Dorset Playhouse with a regional revival of the classic thriller, “Wait Until Dark,” directed by Jackson Gay. The preview performance is scheduled for Thursday and the play opens on Friday, June 24 and runs through July 9th at the Dorset Playhouse. Dina Janis is the Artistic Director of the Dorset Theatre Festival and joins us this morning with a preview.

    This summer, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare festival presents a trio of shows in its open-air tent overlooking the Hudson River, including an age-blind production of “Romeo & Juliet,” “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play,” which takes its inspiration from “The Simpsons,” and “Where We Belong” - an intimate solo performance by Mohegan writer-director-actor Madeline Sayet.This season’s performances are being performed on the festival's iconic open air tent - but on their new grounds in Garrison, NY.Davis McCallum is the Artistic Director of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival and he joins us now to share more details about these exciting productions.
