Empire State Youth Orchestra’s Symphony Orchestra will return to Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. with a concert that celebrates spring. They’ll perform Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” and Li Huanzhi’s “Spring Festival Orchestra.” This concert will also feature Yu-Heng Wang, one of ESYO’s two 2023 Lois Lyman Concerto Competition winners, performing Bartok's Viola Concerto.

The ESYO season begins on Sunday, October 30th at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall with ESYO's flagship Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven's 7th Symphony; a work Beethoven described as the "glory of light through darkness." The concert also features Gabriella Smith's Field Guide, a musical safari into the natural world, as well as surprising percussion interventions in the Beethoven Symphony and a student-led instant composition.

Musicians of Ma’alwyck is a flexible-size chamber ensemble in residence at the Schuyler Mansion New York State Historic Site and Schenectady County Community College. The first concert of this season, "A Stranger in Your Own Land" is this coming Saturday. The centerpiece on the program is the lamentation cantata Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight by Roy Harris. We welcome Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz.

Renowned conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, whose rich association with The Boston Symphony Orchestra dates back to his time as a TMC Fellow (1968-69). He will be joined by the remarkable young Russian pianist Alexander Malofeev in his BSO and Tanglewood debut for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 on Saturday, August 27 at Tanglewood’s Shed.Then, Thomas will lead the BSO in Tanglewood’s traditional season-ending performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s intensely expressive, innovative, but ultimately uplifting Symphony No. 9 on Sunday afternoon at Tanglewood at 2:30 p.m.Michael Tilson Thomas is Music Director Laureate of the San Francisco Symphony, Conductor Laureate of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Co-Founder and Artistic Director Laureate of the New World Symphony. Born in Los Angeles, he is the third generation of his family to pursue an artistic career.
