Jacob's Pillow gets underway soon for this summer's Dance Festival. This season features nine weeks of performances in the Ted Shawn Theatre and on the outdoor Leir Stage as well as special events, parties, workshops, exhibits, talks, pop-up performances, around Berkshire County, and more. Jacob's Pillow Executive and Artistic Director Pamela Tatge joins us.

The American Theatre Wing's 76th Annual Tony Awards will be presented this Sunday, June 11 and choreographer Jennifer Weber is nominated for twice nominated for her work on the musicals “& Juliet” and “KPOP.”

Pianist Jacqueline Schwab will perform a concert entitled “Mothers and Children: A Mother's Day Concert of Hope and Peace” at the Guilderland Public Library this Sunday, May 14 at 2 p.m.Schwab’s signature piano playing features in over a dozen of Ken Burns’ documentaries, including his Grammy-winning “Civil War,” “Baseball,” “The War” and others. As a solo pianist, she has performed vintage American music in almost every state of the union. Her latest album is “I Life My Lamp: Illuminations from Immigrant America.”

What would our anthem be if we wrote it today? What would it sound like, look like, and who should it serve? Choreographer Adam Weinert spent years investigating imagery of The American Dream and the radical patriotism of early American modern dance. In his new EMPAC commissioned ANTHEM, to be presented Friday, November 4, 2022 at 8PM in the Concert Hall at RPI, he seeks to reconcile dewy Americana with our society’s deep fissures, inequalities, and environmental degradation. The movement in ANTHEM draws from a fake news article describing imagined original choreography from 1916 meant to accompany the national anthem. The performers begin to dissect the song and its various incarnations to relate it to a 21st-century America. Joining us this morning - Senior Curator for Theater and Dance at EMPAC Ashely Ferro-Murray and Artist and Choreographer Adam Weinert.

Equine Advocates’ 21st Annual Gala will take place on Sunday, September 18. Ailey II, the company founded in 1974 by the legendary American choreographer Alvin Ailey, will perform live at PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century in Chatham, New York.

Incomparable two-time Tony Award Chita Rivera winner will recreate signature moments from her legendary career at The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on July 31. In addition to a tribute to her dear friends John Kander and Fred Ebb, the timeless music of Leonard Bernstein, Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, Jerry Herman and Stephen Sondheim will also be featured, accompanied by her long-time trio.

The full New York City Ballet company is at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York this week with six performances featuring the timeless works of Balanchine and Robbins, as well as the return of Merce Cunningham’s Summerspace and SPAC debuts by Jamar Roberts and Pam Tanowitz.The week kicked off with NYCB On and Off Stage and closes with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”To tell us more we are joined by dancer Indiana Woodward.
