Song Exploder host/creator Hrishikesh Hirway's new EP "Rooms I Used to Call My Own" available 3/30 - concert in Saugerties 3/20

Hrishikesh Hirway is an acclaimed musician and host/creator of the Song Exploder podcast and Netflix series. His first EP under his own name, “Rooms I Used to Call My Own,” is due March 30.

The album features collaborations with a long list of acclaimed artists, songwriters and producers including Yo-Yo Ma, Jay Som, Baths, Jenny Owen Youngs, Jimmy Tamborello, Jonathan Snipes, John Mark Nelson and Grammy-winners John Congleton and Kimbra.

Hirway is marking the release of the EP with a co-headlining tour with Jenny Owen Youngs that started in Austin at South by Southwest this on Tuesday (when we recorded this interview) and will bring them to Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties, New York on Sunday, March 20.

Sarah has been a public radio producer for over fifteen years. She grew up in Saranac Lake, New York where she worked part-time at Pendragon Theatre all through high school and college. She graduated from UAlbany in 2006 with a BA in English and started at WAMC a few weeks later as a part-time board-op in the control room. Through a series of offered and seized opportunities she is now the Senior Contributing Producer of The Roundtable and Producer of The Book Show. During the main thrust of the Covid-19 pandemic shut-down, Sarah hosted a live Instagram interview program "A Face for Radio Video Series." On it, Sarah spoke with actors, musicians, comedians, and artists about the creative activities they were accomplishing and/or missing.

The exhibition is inspired by the connection between protests across the globe.

    Angélique Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. Kidjo also travels the world advocating on behalf of children in her capacity as a UNICEF and OXFAM goodwill Ambassador and created her own charitable foundation, Batonga, dedicated to support the education of young girls in Africa. The global superstar and four-time Grammy Award winner now stars in "Yemandja," a new music theater work that is a family drama and historical thriller infused with Greek tragedy and themes of love, betrayal, honor, free will, and the horror and injustice of slavery. Named for a Yoruban deity, this MASS MoCA co-commission a parable about gods and humans that illuminates through song what can happen when people are robbed of their culture. The musical will be performed at MASS MoCA on March 4 and 5.

    On December 24, the series finale of the AppleTV+ series, "Dickinson" will be available to stream on the subscription platform. "Dickinson" stars Hailee Steinfeld in the eponymous role of the great American poet, Emily Dickinson. Set just before and during the American Civil War, we watch Emily Dickinson and her family and neighbors in Amherst, Massachusetts experience love, loss, obligation and creativity and debate the usefulness of tradition, the abolition of slavery, gender equality, and the value of fame.

    This Saturday, November 13, the Oklahoma City based psychedelic rock outfit, The Flaming Lips, will play The Palace Theatre in Albany, New York with special guest, Particle Kid. Touring in support of their 2020 album “American Head,” The Flaming Lips live show offers not only their euphonic offerings from nearly four decades of music creation but also: balloons, confetti, complex and beautiful lighting designs, and inflatable puppets. Wayne Coyne is the front-man for The Flaming Lips and he joins us.
