Work Is Under Way At A Busy Kingston Intersection

New York state Department of Transportation officials say work has begun on a roundabout at a busy entrance to the City of Kingston.

The state’s DOT Commissioner announced Monday that work is beginning on an $11.6 million project to reconstruct the intersection of Interstate 587 (Colonel Chandler Drive), Broadway and Route 32 (Albany Avenue) in Kingston into a roundabout. The aim of the reconfiguration is to smooth traffic flow and enhance safety at the busy city gateway. There will be streetscaping, landscaping, and pedestrian and cyclist facilities, including raised crosswalks and a mixed-use path. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2021. Throughout construction, digital message boards will be posted along major corridors in the city to alert motorists about traffic changes.
