The New York state Department of Transportation has begun a project in Putnam County to improve an interchange.

Construction has begun on a $2.2 million project to improve the interchange between I-84 and Route 312 in Southeast. Enhancements will include redesigned turning lanes on Route 312, also known as Dykeman Road, leading to I-84’s on-ramps. There will also be new traffic signals. Additional improvements include new signage and pavement markings. Route 312 and a portion of the I-84 eastbound on-ramp will also be repaved as part of the project. Area lawmakers say the enhancements will expedite traffic flow and help one of the county’s busiest commercial areas.
