A northern Dutchess County intersection considered dangerous will soon be getting a flashing traffic light. This comes after calls from local officials and residents following two fatal accidents this year.
The New York State Department of Transportation will install a flashing light at the intersection of Route 9G and West Kerley Corners, which is also county route 78, in the Village of Tivoli. The DOT is working with Dutchess County on the installation, and County Executive Marc Molinaro says the flashing light will be an important step toward improving safety of this intersection. Calls for safety improvements came following a fatal car accident earlier in March that took the life of a Hudson man. And January 31, just before midnight, two Bard College students who were walking near the intersection were struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver. The four-way overhead flashing light is scheduled to be operational by Memorial Day.
