Moon, Milkweed, and Myth: Reflections on Healing and Surviving from Gun Violence
A reading from a Gun Violence Survivor
[SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, January 2026] On January 31st, Saratoga Arts will be hosting author, Kristen Renaud, for a reading from her book Moon, Milkweed, and Myth: Reflections on Healing and Surviving from Gun Violence.
Kristen Renaud survived the shooting in Olde Town Arvada, CO in June of 2021. Since the tragedy, Kristen has dedicated her life to supporting gun violence survivors. She leads group sessions through Everytown for Gun Safety and runs her own non-profit, Lightning Struck Gardens, which helps gun violence survivors create memorial gardens.
Now, Kristen is ready to share her story through the written word. She will be reading an excerpt from her book, Moon, Milkweed, and Myth: Reflections on Healing and Surviving from Gun Violence, at 11:00 am at Saratoga Arts in Saratoga Springs, NY on January 31st. The reading will be followed by a question-and-answer session and reception. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. This event is free to attend.

Kristen is the recipient of a 2025 Saratoga Arts individual artist grant. All of the funds were used for this project. Saratoga Arts made this program possible through the Community Arts Regrant Program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
Kristen Renaud resides in Greenfield Center, NY and is the founder of Lightning Struck Gardens, a nonprofit focused on supporting gun violence survivors through memorial gardens.
