NFL:

You can add the New York Giants to the list of NFL teams in the market for a head coach. Meanwhile, San Diego and Indianapolis are keeping their head coaches.

Tom Coughlin has has resigned after 12 seasons and two Super Bowl victories with the New York Giants, saying it was in the best interest of both sides that he step down. The 69-year-old Coughlin was 110-93 with three division titles with the Giants after going 72-64 in eight seasons as Jacksonville's original head coach. The decision comes after the Giants completed a 6-10 season and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year.

Mike McCoy will return as head coach of the Chargers despite a 4-12 record this season, their worst since 2003. McCoy is 23-27 in three seasons with San Diego, including a playoff win and loss in his first season, 2013. He has one year left on his contract. The team also announced that offensive coordinator Frank Reich (ryk) has been dismissed.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has announced that he's given coach Chuck Pagano a four-year contract extension, ending speculation that he would be fired this week. Pagano guided the Colts to 11-5 records in each of his first three seasons and reached the 2014 AFC title game. But several injuries led to an 8-8 record this season, one game behind the AFC South-champion Houston Texans.

Chris Grier has been promoted to general manager of the Miami Dolphins, replacing the recently-terminated Dennis Hickey. Grier has spent 16 years in the organization, the last nine as director of college scouting. One of his first tasks as GM will be to hire a head coach. Interim coach Dan Campbell is a favorite among most players, but the Dolphins also interviewed former Atlanta coach Mike Smith for the job on Monday. Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan will get an interview Tuesday, and Chicago offensive coordinator Adam Gase (gays) is expected to be a top candidate.

The St. Louis Rams have filed an application to relocate to the Los Angeles area after 21 seasons in the Midwest. The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders also filed in an effort to move closer to L.A. Owner Stan Kroenke is part of a group planning a $1.8 billion stadium in Inglewood, Calif., and the team said on its web site that it sought to relocate to the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, where the team played from 1946-94. The Chargers and Raiders have teamed on a joint venture for a stadium in Carson, Calif. The Rams, Chargers, and Raiders have all called the Los Angeles Coliseum their home at some point in their history.

Arkansas All-American tight end Hunter Henry has decided to leave school after his junior season and declare for the NFL draft. He had 51 catches for 739 yards this season for the Razorbacks, who ended their season with a 45-23 win over Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl. Also leaving school early are Notre Dame cornerback KeiVarae Russell and Stanford tight end Austin Hooper.

NBA:

In the NBA, Boston beat Brooklyn 103-94, Philadelphia topped Minnesota 109-99, Miami defeated Indiana in overtime 103-100, Detroit blasted Orlando 115-89, Sacramento bested Oklahoma City 116-104, Cleveland won against Toronto 122-100, Houston beat Utah 93-91, Memphis topped Portland 91-78, and it was Golden State over Charlotte 111-101.

Former overall No. 1 NBA draft pick Elton Brand is back in the game after inking a pact with the 76ers. The two-time All-Star was chosen by the Bulls in 1999 and was named Rookie of the Year. He has played 16 seasons in the NBA, most recently with the Atlanta Hawks from 2013 and 2015.

The Chicago Bulls say an MRI performed on Derrick Rose today rules out any issues with his right knee. Rose has undergone two surgeries on the knee since he injured it during the 2012 NBA playoffs. He is a game-time decision for tomorrow's matchup with Milwaukee after sitting out the past three games because of a hamstring problem.

NHL:

In the NHL, Detroit blanked New Jersey 1-0, Ottawa edged St. Louis 3-2, Edmonton skated by Carolina in overtime 1-0, Colorado won against Los Angeles 4-1, and it was Arizona over Vancouver 3-2.

The New York Rangers have recalled forward Jayson Megna from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League. General manager Jeff Gorton announced the move yesterday. Megna has skated in 34 games with the Wolf Pack, registering seven goals and 11 assists.

The Buffalo Sabres will spend the next 3-5 weeks without forward Nicolas Deslauriers due to a lower body injury. He sustained the injury in a 4-3 loss to Detroit on Saturday.

Jarome Iginla has become the 19th player in NHL history to score 600 career goals. Iginla reached the milestone by providing one of Colorado's three power-play tallies in a 4-1 win against the visiting Los Angeles Kings. He received a lengthy ovation after beating Jonas Enroth with 6:58 remaining. Tyson Barrie scored twice and had two assists as the Avalanche won for only the second time in their last six games. The Kings ended a five-game winning streak.

NCAA:

UConn remains the No. 1 team in The Associated Press women's basketball poll yesterday after facing a tough test from Maryland. The Huskies topped the Terrapins by 10 points at the Maggie Dixon Classic last Monday. UConn only led by 4 in the final minute before pulling away. The Huskies have a busy week with three games over the next seven days.

In men’s college basketball, Shane Richards scored four of his 21 points in the final 15 seconds, and Rich Williams added 19 points to help Manhattan outlast Siena for a 92-87 win in triple overtime on Monday night.

RaShawn Stores scored 16, Calvin Crawford had a career-high 15 points and Zane Waterman finished with 12 and a career-best 13 rebounds for Manhattan (5-8, 2-2 Metro-Atlantic). Williams made a layup and Richards hit a 3-pointer to put the Jaspers up 84-79 less than a minute into the third overtime. A jumper by Williams made it 88-83 with 1:31 left, but Brett Bisping hit the first of two free throws and, after an offensive rebound by Nico Clareth, Ryan Oliver's 3 pulled Siena (9-6, 2-2) within one 28 seconds later. Richards made a layup and, after a Saints turnover near midcourt, two free throws to seal it. Javion Ogunyemi had 26 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks — all of which at least tied career highs — for Siena.

Donovan Smith and Giovanni McLean combined to score 30 points and Quinnipiac never trailed in a 64-60 win over Rider to snap a four-game losing string last night. The Bobcats led by as many as 15 points, but had few answers for Teddy Okereafor, who scored a career-best 30 points, including the Broncs' final 15 points in the game.

Dino Babers has added six assistant coaches to his new staff at Syracuse. All six worked for Babers at Bowling Green before he was hired by Syracuse in December and have a combined 22 years of experience working with him: Tom Kaufman will be the Orange's special teams coordinator and linebackers coach; Sean Lewis joins the Orange as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach; Mike Lynch will share offensive coordinator duties with Lewis and coach the offensive line; Kim McCloud will be the Orange's assistant head coach and also coach the receivers; Nick Monroe, a former assistant at Colgate, will coach the secondary; and Brian Ward will serve as defensive coordinator. The Falcons won the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship but lost to Georgia Southern in the GoDaddy Bowl.
