Visit Underhill Ironworks for Fall Open Studio and explore the work of Vermont sculptor Gerald K. Stoner.

Wander through the gallery and outdoor sculpture gardens, where large- and small-scale steel sculptures are displayed throughout the landscape. Experience the work against the backdrop of Vermont’s fall foliage, and see new and recent sculptures and works in progress.

🎃 In the spirit of October, Halloween vignettes will be tucked around the gallery, adding a seasonal twist to the Open Studio weekend.

Sculpture is available for purchase, with delivery and installation options near and far.

Archtober Newburgh is an annual, month long, all-free celebration of one of the Hudson Valley's most remarkable built environments, and the people keeping it alive.

As the second-largest historic district in New York State, the birthplace of the historic preservation movement, and the home of the first publicly owned historic site in the United States, George Washington's Headquarters, Newburgh is the ideal place to celebrate architectural heritage, connect people to resources, champion local initiatives, and imagine what's next for the city. Each October, Archtober Newburgh does exactly that with 50+ free events, including walks, talks, tours, workshops, and gatherings for both locals and visitors.

Light and Transient Causes
In the 250th anniversary year of the Declaration of Independence, this exhibition takes its name from a line in the document that suggests that some grievances may prove too fleeting to justify revolution—and considers asymmetries of perception of what is deemed light enough to ignore, transient enough to postpone. Curated by Marisa Espe.

The Mayfield Historical Society will be hosting its Annual Fall Harvest Cruise-In on Saturday, October 3rd, from 12-3 pm at The Rice Homestead, 328 Riceville Road, Mayfield, NY. (GPS in Gloversville). All antique, vintage, and hot rod vehicles are welcome and each will receive a complimentary hot dog and side. For Cruise-In vehicle pre-registration or for more information, please contact Bob Suits at 518-857-2820. Dan Lynaugh will be providing musical entertainment from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. Hot dogs with Mayfield’s iconic Lee's Snack Bar Secret Meat Sauce will be available along with cider donuts, apple cider, and assorted other refreshments for a cash donation. The Fall Harvest Cruise-In will also feature antique farm tractors, farm animals, the Mayfield High School Future Farmers of America, Brett’s Farm Stand, MW Woodworks wood carving along with a Meet and Greet Table with Mayfield Historian Eric Close. The historic Rice Homestead will be open for viewing with its current exhibit “The American Revolution in Mayfield.” Admission is free for this event and all are welcome.

Join us on Saturday, 10/3 during Homecoming Weekend to view Howard Schwartzberg: Volume, Surface, Core; mosie romney: ash, whistle & redress; and Invitation to the Light Factory | Suzan Frecon & Marcella Durand on view in the University Art Museum.

Attend our exhibition tour at 12pm led by Associate Curator Robert R. Shane. Visit the Collections Study Space (CSS) to browse our Collections.

The museum and CSS are open 11am - 4pm.

Celebrate the beauty of autumn with a day of connection, creativity, and community at Spiral House Park!

Explore the Spiral House during our open house and enjoy live music by Maia Jarrett, Leo Belsky & Micah Kelleher (Jazz Trio), Megan Gugliotta and more musical performers. Meet local artists and makers, and take part in hands-on, fall-inspired workshops and nature-based activities for children.

We’re also excited to welcome our community partners, including Kingston Land Trust, Opus 40, Woodstock Land Conservancy and Barkaboom Native Plants, a local grower of native plants, who will be joining us with interactive activities and opportunities to connect with the organizations helping make the Hudson Valley such a vibrant place to live, create, and explore. A special bird presentation by Ravensbeard will take place at 2:00 PM.

A special menu of dishes, crafted by Good Mood Foods and inspired by Diane Hagedorn’s cookbook, For Goodness Sake: Plant Based Recipes from the Spiral House Kitchen, will also be available for purchase.

Come gather, create, explore, and celebrate the abundance of fall with us. All are welcome!

Ages 16+

Students are provided with photo references from which they’ll develop small-format landscape paintings. Using the grid system, they create simple contour drawings as a foundation for painting. Since photos are not always ideally designed, they’ll learn the importance of editing and discarding unnecessary details to achieve a well-balanced composition. Students will also learn essential watercolor techniques: wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, color mixing and more. Drawing and painting demonstrations are part of every class.

All tools and materials will be provided.

This year’s theme is “Great Americans of Blandford—Movers, Shakers and History Makers.” For those unfamiliar with a ghost walk, it’s a guided tour where costumed performers portray people from the town’s past. History comes alive as the “ghosts” themselves share the courage, sacrifices, surprises and stories behind Blandford’s remarkable past.

Guests will meet a colorful cast of characters, from Revolutionary War, Civil War and World War II veterans to statesmen, entrepreneurs, educators and hometown legends. These residents helped shape the town—and often the nation—in ways you might not expect.
