Ekphrastic writing is inspired by visual art, in the form of an essay, poetry, or fiction. This two-day workshop is for writers of all levels. By taking inspiration from a work of art, the writer creates a unique collaboration with the artist and reader. In the first 90-minute session on April 18 from 11am-12:30pm, we will examine and discuss examples of ekphrastic writing before exploring the current exhibits at the Hyde to discover the works that inspire us. Then we will meet to write and talk.
In the next 60-minute workshop session on April 25 from 11am-12pm, we will share our reactions to the experience and our writing.

Join other artists at the Hyde to create bold and beautiful watercolor paintings. Participants will practice watercolor techniques to learn some of the magic of the medium, then will apply these techniques in creating their own watercolor landscape inspired by the natural beauty of our region. Watercolor artist, Diane Swanson will work with each artist through the creative process, with tips on how to handle composition, color and brushwork. This workshop is for all artistic abilities and all materials will be provided.
About the artist: Diane Swanson is a visual artist based in the Lake George/Adirondack region; much of her work celebrates the lakes, mountains, woods and landscapes of the Northeast. Although her paintings are representational, she approaches her work with an eye to more abstract qualities, harmonizing atmosphere and movement with form, color and line. Her work has been exhibited in many juried, group and solo shows throughout the Northeast and her landscapes and commissioned paintings have found homes with collectors all over the US.
This program is for all ages and is free with museum admission.
If you would like to attend the talk as well, you will be prompted to reserve your space in the checkout below your Museum Admission.
