The Mahaiwe

  • The Bookloft and The Mahaiwe are presenting a special night with screenwriter and novelist Terry Hayes on the eve of his first publication in a decade, "The Year of the Locust." The event will be at Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on February 5. Hayes will be in conversation with Jaclyn Stevenson, Director of Marketing at Shakespeare & Company.
  • Samantha Bee is currently on tour with a new live show “Your Favorite Woman: The Joy of Sex Education” and she’ll be at The Bardavon in Poughkeepsie, New York on Friday, November 17 and at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on Saturday, November 18.
  • Los Angeles based dance company BODYTRAFFIC will perform at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts this coming Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.Artistic Director and co-founder Tina Finkelman Berkett leads a masterful troupe who interpret various choreographers’ distinct visions.
  • The 17th annual Berkshire International Film Festival is taking place June 1-4.On the evening of Saturday, June 3, BIFF will pay Tribute to Special Event Tribute to Award-Winning actor Stephen Lang.
  • Since 1974, The Robert Cray Band has been touring and recording their unique groove, born from a love of Soul, R&B, Gospel, Blues and Rock n Roll. The five-time Grammy winner has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned the Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. The band will be at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on March 4.
  • Pandemics and peak experiences aren’t usually mentioned in the same breath. But I had something resembling one in May 2021 when I attended a concert at The Mount, Edith Wharton’s stately home in Lenox, Massachusetts. The performers were Soprano Sonja Tengblad and contralto Emily Marvosh, with Joseph Turvessi on the piano.
  • Critically-acclaimed actor Ronnie Marmo, with the blessings of Kitty Bruce (daughter of the late Lenny Bruce), along with the Lenny Bruce Foundation, present "I’m Not a Comedian… I’m Lenny Bruce," directed by Joe Mantegna. "I'm Not a Comedian ... I'm Lenny Bruce," will be performed at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on October 14 and 15.
  • Ted Rosenthal’s jazz opera "Dear Erich" was inspired by letters written in Germany between 1938 and 1941 by Herta Rosenthal to the composer’s father. Dear Erich depicts a family’s dual fates.
  • The mission of the Aston Magna Foundation in Great Barrington, MA is to enrich the appreciation of music of the past through the use of historical instruments and practices in performances, recordings, and workshops, and through innovative interdisciplinary educational programs, publications, and electronic media. Aston Magna’s 2022 Summer Festival begins this weekend with two musical/theatrical works that feature the struggle between personifications of good and evil: Scarlatti’s “Humanity and Lucifer” (1706) and Stravinsky’s Faustian “The Soldier’s Tale” (1918). Daniel Stepner is Artistic Director of Aston Magna and he joins us to preview this weekend’s concerts and the season on the whole.

She found mainstream success in 2004 when her album Careless Love hit and she’s celebrating that album and the songs collected on it in her pandemic-delayed “Careless Love Forever” tour.Peyroux is the type of timeless and expressive singer who transports listeners with the emotionality of her performance. The Careless Love Forever tour will bring Madeleine Peyroux to The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on Friday, May 27 at 8 p.m.
