The Boston Symphony Orchestra says Music Director Andris Nelsons will step down at the end of the 2027 summer season at Tanglewood.In a letter to the orchestra’s community Friday, the BSO’s Board of Trustees said it decided not to renew Nelsons’ contract, citing differences over the organization’s future vision.

This year is a very special year as it marks Keith Lockhart’s 30th Anniversary as conductor of the Boston Pops. A tenure that includes over 2250 performances, 45 national tours to more than 150 cities, and 5 international tours. One is tomorrow night; he will be conducting the annual John Williams Film Night curated by Williams himself and then on Friday August 22nd there will be the Keith Lockhart 30th Anniversary Celebration.

Arts and culture are one of the most vibrant sectors of the Berkshire County economy. As a result, the leaders of 10 arts and culture institutions from across Berkshire County have convened the Berkshire Arts and Culture Alliance (BACA) to advocate for economic, tourism, and infrastructure needs of the arts and culture organizations in the county. We welcome representatives from six of the 10 organizations to make up our panel this morning.

Tony Fogg is a dear friend to this program and has been with us since we first broadcast here some 2-decades. Tony was born in Australia and was trained as a pianist at the Brazilian Academy of Music and at the University of Sydney. In 1994 at the invitation of Seiji Ozawa, he came to the USA to take up the position of Artistic Administrator of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Now, as Vice-President of Artistic Planning, he assists BSO Music Director, Andris Nelsons, with the scheduling of all performances by the BSO, as well as overseeing the Pops and Tanglewood Music Festival.
