Midori is a visionary artist, activist and educator who explores and builds connections between music and the human experience. In the four decades since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at age 11, she has performed with many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras and has collaborated with world-renowned musicians including Leonard Bernstein, Yo-Yo Ma, and many others.She is in Albany to perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Albany Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor André Raphel. Plus, you’ll experience Shostakovich’s gripping, intense Symphony No. 10 – and the concert opens with a work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon. The newly renovated Troy Savings Bank Music Hall will welcome two-time Grammy Award-winning Albany Symphony for dazzling holiday performances on December 13 and 14.Audiences will enjoy Haydn’s most famous work, the “Surprise” Symphony; Mozart’s greatest concerto, his Piano Concerto No. 20 in d minor, Bach’s joyful, virtuosic Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, and the thrilling world premiere of a work by an extraordinarily brilliant 14-year-old composer, Isaac Thomas. On December 7th, families can revel in the sparkle of Magic of the Season, the Capital Region’s most beloved holiday spectacular, returning with its heartwarming blend of music, community, and festive delight. The Albany Symphony Orchestra’s next concert of the season is at the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York tomorrow night at 7:30.The evening will shine with Gustav Holst’s cosmic spectacle, “The Planets,” featuring the ethereal voices of Albany Pro Musica, and the world premiere of a new Violin Concerto by composer Bobby Ge.

Two-time GRAMMY Award-winning Albany Symphony will begin their 2025-2026 season next Saturday, featuring Stravinsky’smagnificent Firebird Suite, Dvořák’s masterful Cello Concerto, the world premiere of Look Up by Alex Berko and Sibelius’s stirring Finlandia.The concert will take place at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Albany on Saturday, October 11, beginning at 7:30pm. A pre-concert talk by Music Director David Alan Miller will begin at 6:30pm.

The Albany Symphony is back on tour with 5 full-day free festivals culminating in Albany Symphony concerts to commemorate the Erie Canal Bicentennial. Maestro David Alan Miller will tell us about Water Music NY: More Voices Festival running from Wednesday July 2 through Sunday July 6th. The Albany Symphony Orchestra’s 2025 American Music Festival takes place June 4-8th with composer workshops and rehearsal readings, post-concert musical mingling, Dogs of Desire, the culminating Festival concert, recitals, and more in Troy and Albany. The Albany Symphony Orchestra will be at the Palace Theatre in Albany tomorrow night at 7:30. The concert will feature Ravel’s “Boléro,” “Concerto for Hindustani Violin” by Reena Esmail and Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.”

This Saturday, March 8, The Albany Symphony Orchestra will present a concert featuring Dvorak’s 7th Symphony, Barber’s Violin Concerto, and Missy Mazzoli’s Orpheus Undone at Proctors in Schenectady, New York. The program will be guest-conducted by Music Director of Chicago Opera Theater Lidiya Yankovskaya.

The Albany Symphony’s February Concerts Celebrate Valentine’s Day and Maestro David Alan Miller’s Birthday, and feature Rachmaninoff’s Romantic, Sensual Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, performed by 19-year-old pianist, Harmony Zhu.

It might sound odd for a theater critic to say that an afternoon spent at an Albany Symphony Orchestra was among the best 2 1/2 hours he’s spent in a theater in a long time.
