Hudson, New York Mayor Kamal Johnson has rolled out a program to help students affected by COVID-19.
When the pandemic forced Hudson City schools to switch to remote learning, Johnson, a first-term Democrat, initiated a program in conjunction with not-for-profit Spark of Hudson to get internet access to families without it.
"Families receive a phone, and getting it connected, all they have to do is plug it into the charger and they can go right on to the internet."
Johnson began distributing the 50 Motorola phones on Sunday and says he’s handed out more than 35. Each unit comes with 20 gigs of bandwidth.
