A New York group is leading a hike to the site on a Hudson Valley mountain where a U.S. military plane crashed 70 years ago, killing six.
The Friends of the Mountain Beacon Six are hiking today to the spot on Mount Beacon where a twin-engine transport plane crashed in November 1945 while en route to Rhode Island.
Among those killed was Commodore Dixie Kiefer, a highly-decorated World War II hero, and the five other Navy men.
The Mount Beacon group is planning to hold a 70th anniversary ceremony in November.
