EPA Proposes Removing Newburgh Site From Superfund List

The Environmental Protection Agency proposes to remove an Orange County site from the Superfund list.

EPA says after $45 million was spent to address a metal processing site on the Hudson River in Newburgh, the cleanup work has been successful and the site can now be taken off the Superfund list of the most contaminated hazardous waste sites. EPA officials say past operations at the Consolidated Iron and Metal Company contaminated the soil and groundwater with PCBs. As part of its work under a consent decree with EPA, the city of Newburgh has developed a plan to manage the site and determine how to redevelop the property. The public may comment on the proposed decision to delete the site from the Superfund list. The comment period ends October 30.
