It’s a critical time in education. In today’s Congressional Corner, Republican Congressman Marc Molinaro of New York’s 19th district wraps up his conversation with WAMC’s Ian Pickus. This conversation was recorded April 10.

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.

The main finding of The Turnaway Study is that receiving an abortion does not harm the health and wellbeing of women, but in fact, being denied an abortion results in worse financial, health and family outcomes. Dr. Diana Green Foster will be the speaker at this year’s Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood Leadership Luncheon on Thursday, October 28 from 12:30 am to 1:30 pm - the virtual event is open to the public and will be moderated by Dr. Dorcey Applyrs.

Its long-standing history has made the structure a figure in the ongoing debate surrounding prison reform and restorative justice. When former mayor Bill DeBlasio approved the closure of Rikers in 2017 Architectural Digest writer, Eva Fedderly, was among those who believed it was a step towards a more humane future.
