Schenectady County Law enforcement officials have announced an expansion of the county-wide drug unit to address heroin and opioid-related crime and addiction.
The creation of the Drug Unit in September 2015 added two full-time investigators and a full-time inspector position to the Schenectady County sheriff’s office.
Through 2016, police say the task force busted 150 drug buys, executed 17 search warrants, seized $200,000 in cash and three vehicles, recovered 3 weapons, and charged more than 70 individuals for felony drug sales.
Sheriff Dominic Dagostino announced Sunday the addition of an Investigator from the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office and an additional Sheriff Patrol Officer.
Officials say it’s part of a three-pronged approach to address illegal drugs in the community.
