NY Lawmaker Proposes Tax On Vapor Products In E-Cigs

A New York state Senator from the Hudson Valley is proposing to tax vapor products that are used in e-cigarettes and the like.

State Senator David Carlucci, an Independent Democrat, say he is introducing legislation to enact a tax on these liquids. He says the tax will help stunt the growth of e-cigarette use and protect the health of New Yorkers, especially young adults. And he points to statistics showing that teenagers’ use of e-cigarettes is growing. Carlucci is proposing a tax of $0.25 per fluid milliliter, and says the new tax revenue would benefit the same programs already receiving money from current tobacco taxes, mainly wellness and smoking cessation programs.
