Skidmore Encore announces registration for its Fall 2025 lecture series delivered by the remarkable Skidmore College faculty for adult learners age 55+ from around the local region. Encore attracts intellectually curious people who are eager to learn. Join us! The 2025 program runs for seven weeks on Tuesdays from September 30 through November 11 in the gorgeous Arthur Zankel Music Center Skidmore College campus. The Norman Rockwell Museum is honored to present a rare series of early twentieth century lighting advertisements by Norman Rockwell and fellow Golden Age illustrators Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, Dean Cornwell, Stanley Arthurs, Worth Brehm, and Charles Chambers created for Edison Mazda Lamps, a division of the General Electric Company. These luminous, richly painted works were widely circulated in published advertisements through the 1920s and are on loan to the Museum for the first time through the generosity of GE Aerospace.

“Once a Tree: Continuity, Creativity, and Connection” explores the deep-rooted significance of trees in Haudenosaunee culture, tradition, and creative expression. Featuring the work of 42 artists and more than 100 objects—including decorative and utilitarian baskets, cradleboards, snowshoes, ladles, lacrosse sticks, toys, instruments, carvings, and sleds—this exhibition highlights the important relationship between nature and artistry. Selected from the Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition was created with guidance from curatorial consultants Terry Chrisjohn III (Oneida), Preston Jacobs (Mohawk), and Sheila Ransom (Mohawk).

"Separated but Unbroken: The Haudenosaunee Boarding School Experience" explores the lasting impact of the Thomas Indian School, once located on the Cattaraugus Reservation south of Buffalo, NY, and The Mohawk Institute near Branford, Ontario. These institutions, which enrolled a significant number of Haudenosaunee students, were part of a larger system that sought to erase Indigenous identities while deeply shaping the lives of those who endured them. Co-curated by Erin Keaton (Mohawk), the exhibition sheds light on Haudenosaunee resilience.

Seneca artist Samantha Jacobs, from the Cattaraugus Reservation in western NY, is a skilled practitioner of traditional Haudenosaunee arts, with her work exhibited at prestigious venues nationwide. Recently, she added the rare and intricate craft of moose hair tufting and embroidery to her repertoire—a nearly forgotten art form. Join Samantha as she demonstrates this delicate and visually striking technique, sharing insights into its history and process. Included in Museum admission.

In this fun and creative class, students will dive into painting, drawing, and printmaking. They'll learn how to build exciting compositions, experiment with layers and textures, and express their ideas through art. Whether they're capturing the world around them or inventing new ones, students will grow their skills and confidence as young artists—all while having a great time making art with their peers!

This class is perfect for all levels of student. This class will be broken into 2 days! October 11th, 2025 (10am – 3pm) and October 18th, 2025 (10am – 3pm). You must attend both sessions to complete your 9″x12″ stained glass window. You will make a resin sliced geode, design, cut, and create your own 9″x12″ window using all the common techniques used in stained glass work. Glass colors will be preselected by the instructor. All materials provided!

You will be working with resin on October 11th, please wear old clothes this day. Please bring gloves, a mask, and wear closed toed shoes.

Join CLC and The O Zone / Flower Power for this season’s final volunteer work party caring for the Pollinator Patch at Greenport!

This volunteer work party will involve replanting the patch with native species that will help local pollinators thrive. Volunteers will leave with new skills related to native plant landscaping and small-scale land management.

We can’t wait to welcome volunteers back to the pollinator patch this spring to see all of the changes and new insects! All are welcome at this fun, friendly volunteer event.
