Create your own paper Shaker oval box while learning about the history, design, and practical uses of this iconic Shaker design. Discover how the Shakers utilized the oval shape for both function and efficiency as you craft your own keepsake.

Kids craft for free! Guided tours of the historic site will also be available at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Join local broom maker Robin Ziegler in this 3-piece broom making workshop!

In this workshop you will use traditional broom-making techniques to make a three-piece kitchen set: a Turkey Wing Whisk Broom, a Pot Scrubber, and a Cake Tester. All of the items will be made with all natural broom corn, your choice of string and either a piece of broom corn seed, or a piece of red dyed broom corn for decoration to weave into the broom. By making three items, you will learn to start a broom three times so that you have the knowledge and practice to try it on your own!

The Turkey Wing Whisk Broom dates back well over 200 years when all you had were grasses, twigs and string to fasten a broom together. This broom will use a low-sugar content of sorghum for broom making and a variety of strong nylon string. Your Turkey Wing broom will be great for cleaning car mats, small rugs, craft tables, work benches and more. They are very functional, make wonderful gifts and are lovely to display.

The pot or veggie scrubber can be used to clean stubborn pots OR dirty vegetables. The cake tester is an old-fashioned utensil with straws that you break off and insert into your cake to check for doneness. If it comes out clean, it’s ready to eat!

This delightful wooden handled broom is a fun mid-size broom that has multiple uses. You will make a short handled broom with a finished smooth wooden handle and all natural broom corn. You will have your color choice of nylon string and a small bunch of either black or red broom corn to add a splash of color or mix into your broom.

In this workshop you will learn how to hand tie your broom to the handle, then how to sew the broom together. This broom is a very handy size for sweeping front porches and staircases and cleaning around furniture and hearths. Children love them, too. You can even decorate your front door with it for special occasions or simply display by your hearth.

Welcome to our 3D Origami Workshop taught by the talented origami artist Itoko Kobayashi! Get ready to unleash your creativity and learn the art of creating stunning origami masterpieces in 3D. This hands-on workshop will guide you through the process step by step, so whether you're a beginner or have some experience, you're sure to have a blast. You will create one piece, past classes have made insects, flowers, and fish. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to explore the world of 3D origami!

Please Note: This class is family friendly! However, all parties must purchase a ticket to participate in the workshop.

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of Ann Lee's arrival to our historic site with an evening of art, music, and dance.

Join us as we continue to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Ann Lee's arrival to our site in the spring of 1776, and her message of love, with an immersive evening of intuitive, improvisational music, inspired live art, and ecstatic dance; a nod to some of the experiences of early Shaker life and worship. The evening begins with a meditative live painting and sound performance that explores themes of ephemerality and impermanence. Then, the audience is invited to join the performers in a participatory guided ecstatic dance. No experience is needed. This is an invitation to foster love for oneself and the community through self-expression and connection. Light refreshments will be provided. Suggested $10 donation.
