WAMC has received several awards for its work in 2019 from the New York State Associated Press Association, including its two top honors. WAMC President and CEO Alan Chartock, who has led the station for four decades, won the NYSAPA Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Art Athens General Excellence of Individual Reporting award went to Brian Shields, who retired after three decades in the WAMC newsroom in December.
“This is a great honor for me personally, but also a testament to everyone who has helped build and support WAMC,” Chartock says. “I’m very grateful to the New York State Associated Press Association. I congratulate this year’s other recipients — including several of my colleagues at WAMC.”

Earlier in May, WAMC also won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Use of Sound, for a storyby Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard.
