NFL:
The New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 42-20 last night. Jonas Gray rushed for 199 yards and a franchise-record four touchdowns in his fourth career game. Tom Brady threw two TD passes as the AFC-best Patriots earned their sixth consecutive victory. New England also has won five in a row against Indianapolis. Brady finished 19 of 30 for 257 yards with two interceptions.
Meanwhile Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has broken the NFL record for 100-point seasons. He passed Jason Elam when he made an extra point early in the fourth quarter of last night's game against his former team, New England. It was his second milestone of the night. Earlier, he became the fourth player in league history to reach 2,100 career points.
Elsewhere San Francisco beat the Giants 16-10. The New York Jets had a bye week.
Atlanta beat Carolina 19-17, Cincinnati won against New Orleans 27-10, St. Louis bested Denver 22-7, Houston trumped Cleveland 23-7, Chicago defeated Minnesota 21-13, Kansas City edged Seattle 24-20, Tampa Bay beat Washington 27-7, San Diego beat Oakland 13-6, Arizona topped Detroit 14-6, Green Bay blew out Philadelphia 53-20.
On Monday Night Football, Pittsburgh is in Tennessee at 8:30.
NBA:
In the NBA, the New York Knicks snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 109-93 win over the Denver Nuggets yesterday. Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith each scored 28 points. (Samuel Dalembert had eight points and eight rebounds for New York, which last won November 2nd against Charlotte.)
Elsewhere Milwaukee beat Miami 91-84, Houston edged Oklahoma City 69-65, Golden State beat the Lakers 136-115.
NHL:
Over on the ice, Chicago tripled up Dallas 6-2, San Jose blanked Carolina 2-0, Minnesota edged Winnipeg in overtime 4-3, Montreal topped Detroit 4-1, Florida bested Anaheim 6-2, and it was Arizona over Edmonton 2-0.
NASCAR:
The NASCAR Sprint Cup race has given Kevin Harvick his first championship title.
NCAA:
University at Albany’s No. 12 Field Hockey earned the college’s first All-Time NCAA Semifinal berth in a 2-1 win over No. 2 Maryland.
The head women’s soccer coach at the College of Saint Rose has been suspended for the rest of the season. Laurie Darling Gutheil was suspended in an email announcement from the school’s athletic director for violating an institutional policy.
