MLB:

The San Francisco Giants are National League champions for the third time in five seasons after Travis Ishikawa belted a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to lift San Francisco past St. Louis 6-3. The Cardinals led 3-2 until pinch-hitter Michael Morse socked a solo homer in the eighth inning. The Giants will travel to Kansas City for Game 1 of the World Series against the Royals on Tuesday.

Three-time world champion David Ortiz will return to the World Series as an analyst for Fox. Fox says the Red Sox slugger will be on the pre- and postgame shows for Games 1 and 2. He will appear alongside Frank Thomas, Nick Swisher and Gabe Kapler on the set Game 1 will be played on Tuesday at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium.

Anthony Bosch, the former owner of the South Florida anti-aging clinic involved in the baseball drug scandal, has pleaded guilty to charges of illegally providing performance-enhancing drugs to athletes including New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. Bosch, who called himself "Dr. T," faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence but is likely to get far less because of cooperation with prosecutors and with MLB's investigation into player drug use.

NFL:

The New England Patriots held off the New York Jets 27-25 last night when Nick Folk's 58-yard field goal attempt was blocked on the last play. The surprisingly competitive Jets suffered their sixth straight loss after taking a 19-17 lead with just under 9 minutes left in the third quarter on Chris Ivory's 1-yard run. Stephen Gostkowski put the Patriots ahead to stay with his second field goal, a 36-yarder with 4:10 to go in the third.

On Sunday at 1pm, Minnesota will be in Buffalo and the Giants are in Dallas to take on the Cowboys at 4:25.

NHL:

Over on the ice in the NHL, the New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 last night. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots and then all three attempts in a shootout, and Rick Nash scored the only goal in the tiebreaker. Derick Brassard scored his third goal in his last three games to help New York snap a three-game skid.

Elsewhere Montreal beat Boston 6-4, Dallas edged Pittsburgh 3-2, Washington tripled up New Jersey 6-2, the Islanders topped San Jose 4-3 in a shootout, Ottawa bested Colorado 5-3, and it was Los Angeles over St. Louis 1-0 in a shootout.
