"The Heartbeat of the Wild" by David Quammen

For more than two decades, award-winning science and nature writer David Quammen has traveled to Earth’s most far-flung and fragile destinations, sending back field notes from places caught in the tension between humans and the wild.

"The Heartbeat of the Wild" features 20 of those assignments: elegantly written narratives, originally published in National Geographic magazine and updated for today, telling colorful and impassioned stories from some of the planet’s wildest locales.

Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act proposed to NYS Legislature

The current New York State legislative session is scheduled to adjourn around June 9. A proposed Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (assembly bill 5322 and senate bill 4246) may be voted on before the close of the session. The act would require plastic packaging to be reduced by half, reduce toxics in packaging and prohibit plastic burning.We are joined by Bennington College faculty member, former EPA Regional Administrator, and President of Beyond Plastics Judith Enck.

Last week we spoke to playwright Mark St. Germain about his new play, "The Happiest Man on Earth" which has its World Premiere preview tonight and runs through June 17 at the Barrington Stage Company’s St. Germain Stage in Pittsfield. "The Happiest Man on Earth" is based on the memoir of the same name by Eddie Jaku and stars Kenneth Tigar as Eddie.
