Report: NYS Senate Majority Leader Skelos Focus Of Federal Corruption Inquiry

Skelos

The New York Times, citing people familiar with the matter, reports that federal prosecutors are providing evidence to a grand jury in a case against New York State Senate Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam.

The Times says prosecutors have zeroed in on Adam Skelos’ hiring by an Arizona company, AbTech Industries, and a storm water treatment contract awarded to AbTech by Nassau County – part of Senator Dean Skelos’ district. AbTech received the contract despite the fact that the company wasn’t the low bidder.

According to the Times, prosecutors are also focusing on a $20,000 payment to Adam Skelos from American Land Services, a title insurance company that prosecutors say he never worked for. Senator Skelos nor his son responded to written inquiries from the Times.

The Times also reports that prosecutors have recently served a number of subpoenas including several to long island state senators. News of the investigation follows the arrest this year of Assemblyman Sheldon Silver, and his resignation as speaker.
