The Berkshire Humane Society is taking in animals living in the path of Hurricane Dorian.
Executive Director John Perreault says five new guests have joined the 25-30 dogs and 80-plus cats that currently call the Pittsfield, Massachusetts shelter home.
“Late Monday night, we got a call from our transport partner, the ASPCA – who we work with on a regular basis – asking for some shelter’s assistance," said Perreault. "They were removing some dogs from the Hilton Head, South Carolina area and they were coming up to Delaware and they were looking for some shelters to take in some dogs and cats.”
A Berkshire Humane Society employee drove to Delaware to make the pickup. The evacuated animals could be available for adoption as early as this weekend.
