Tyer Starting Pittsfield's First Four-Year Mayoral Term

Linda Tyer will be sworn in as Pittsfield's mayor Jan. 4.

Linda Tyer will be sworn into office Monday, becoming the first person to be elected to a four-year mayoral term in Pittsfield. Tyer is the third woman to lead Berkshire County’s biggest city.Tyer beat out two-term Mayor Dan Bianchi in November taking nearly 60 percent of the vote. Having served on the city council, Tyer has been City Clerk since 2009.

“There are some really great opportunities for us to be a modern, next generation city,” Tyer said. “My vision is to see many young professionals hard at the work during the day, enjoying the downtown and living in these really cool, hip urban living spaces.”

Members of the city council will also be sworn in during Monday’s ceremony before electing their president. They will then vote to confirm the president’s choice for vice president thanks a recent change. In the past the president picked the VP. The 10 a.m. event is open to the public.
