Officials with the Housatonic Railroad say a buildup of ice caused a freight train engine to derail at a private crossing in New Milford, Connecticut.
The engine was pulling a freight train southbound when it derailed Wednesday morning. No one was injured.
The Housatonic Railroad's vice president of special operations, Colin Pease, told the News-Times of Danbury that the engine went off the rails after hitting ice that had built up at the private crossing at Sostak Road. A second engine and all the cars remained on the tracks.
Pease says the engine likely was pulling cars with lumber and wood pulp, along with some empty cars. There were no hazardous materials on the train.
