Rockland Legislators Condemn Act Of Hate

Courtesy of New York-New Jersey Trail Conference
Hi Tor State Park, Rockland County

Rockland County legislators are expected to vote in support of a resolution condemning what they call the latest act of hate.

The full Rockland County Legislature is expected to vote to condemn the swastikas and racial epithets found spray-painted on rocks at the peak of High Tor Mountain, a popular destination that straddles Clarkstown and Haverstraw, with Hudson River views. The resolution passed unanimously in a committee June 13. The full legislature will vote June 20. Lawmakers say the latest act follows one at the end of May when a home inspector found “No Jews” spray-painted on the basement wall of a vacant house in Haverstraw. This followed swastikas and anti-Semitic language found in separate locations in February.
