Federal Grant To Help Medical College Study Ovarian Aging

A federal grant is headed to New York Medical College in Westchester County to study a facet of women’s reproductive health.

The more than $71,000 National Institute on Aging grant will be used by the Valhalla-based medical college to study DNA repair in ovarian aging. The NIA grant announced by Congresswoman Nita Lowey will allow New York Medical College researchers to investigate how DNA damage is the root cause of two types of ovarian aging: reproductive aging and aging caused by cancer treatments. Doctors say the findings may later be used to develop new therapies for counteracting reproductive aging.
