Portions of the Hudson Valley will see expansions of park-and-ride lots, resulting in 290 new parking spaces. Area officials say the news is good for commuters and the environment.

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald has announced projects that will expand park-and-ride services in Orange and Ulster Counties. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer on a new, 43-space park-and-ride lot in Saugerties. Plus, a park-and-ride lot in Kingston between Washington Avenue and Route 28 will be expanded by 125 parking spaces, for a total of 197 spaces. In Orange County, the lot on Route 17K in Newburgh, between I-87 and I-84, will be reconstructed, adding 60 parking spaces. Two lots on the border of Monroe and Blooming Grove also will be expanded, adding a combined total of 62 spaces.
