A Hudson Valley assemblyman wants the D-O-T to start a website for motorists to report potholes.

Democratic Assemblyman Tom Abinanti is urging passage of his legislation to create a state Department of Transportation website where motorists can report the locations of significant potholes, check repair status, and view the locations of reported potholes to be avoided. The Westchester assemblyman says the number and severity of potholes on state roads in his county are creating an emergency situation with cars suffering tire blow-outs or more significant damage. Abinanti says the DOT does run a pothole hotline where motorists can call to report potholes, but he argues that New York should follow the lead of other states and large cities that use the Internet for this purpose. Democrat Timothy Kennedy is sponsoring the bill in the Senate.
