NYS Assemblyman To Hold Common Core Forum

A New York state assemblyman from the Hudson Valley is hosting a forum Wednesday evening in Dutchess County on Common Core standards.

Republican Assemblyman Kieran Lalor is joining with his colleagues on the Assembly education committee to hold a forum to discuss concerns expressed by educators, parents, and other stakeholders regarding the implementation of the new curriculum based on Common Core standards. Lalor’s Republican colleagues who will be on hand include another from the Hudson Valley – Steve Katz. The forum is at the Van Wyck Junior High School auditorium in Wappingers Falls, from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m.  Meanwhile, New York State Education Commissioner John King and the state Board of Regents held a forum on Common Core standards in Westchester County at the end of October, one of 12 slated across the state and the only one for the Hudson Valley. The rescheduled forums were planned after the controversial cancellation of the initial Common Core forums after one in Poughkeepsie in early October devolved into a shouting match.
