This year, Greystone Programs proudly announces the 8th Annual Leap for Autism, we're reminded of the incredible journey we've embarked upon together. At the heart of Greystone Programs is a belief that has guided us through the years: the transformative power of expressive arts in enriching the lives of those with Autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Introduction to Composting Saturday, May 4 at 11amConfused about the best way to deal with the organic waste your household generates? Have you tried composting in the past and been frustrated by the result? The goal of this workshop is to demystify the process and help folks set up their own backyard composting system with minimum expense and (hopefully) maximum success.
This workshop will be led by Jennifer Armstrong. Jennifer Armstrong has been gardening since childhood. Making compost for the garden has always been a strong motivation, and now keeping food waste out of the landfill is an additional motivation. She is the Chair of Sustainable Saratoga’s Compost Committee, and has led numerous workshops in the area to help people get started with composting - whether they want the end product for their garden or not.
Introduction to Composting is co-sponsored by Pitney Meadows Community Farm and Sustainable Saratoga.

The ArtEast May Studios Tour is a group of working artists who open their studio doors for two busy days in May during which you can visit while they work. They want you to get a sense of their challenges in realizing their specific vision. It might be dirty, noisy, and chaotic, but it will not be dull.
Both Katherine and Cindy find excitement and inspiration in the natural world for their abstract work in different media – Cindy in photography and Katherine in her oil paintings on canvas. Cindy probes the minute details of colorful plants over the seasons to create her botanical abstractions, while Katherine’s work evokes elementary particles forever intertwined, no matter how far apart they are, even if separated by millions of miles."

Saturday, May 4 from 1 to 4 - Opening Reception for Outside the Box with guest speaker Ian R. Maracle. Ian is Tuscarora Bear Clan from Six Nations. He has been a photographer since 2012, an art form he feels is rooted in storytelling and communication. He was showcased in Photographers Without Borders; has conducted workshops with at risk youth; and been commissioned for behind the scenes and production work by Kaha:wi Dance Theater. Ian’s work is a visually stunning statement of what can happen when one is willing to “stand up to tokenism” and create from “lived experience.”

Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents “Perspective: Six Artists” exhibiting painting, photography, and sculpture by Diahann Addison, Jeffrey All, Amy Cheng, Isabel Cotarelo, Takeyce Walter, and Kenneth Young.
“Curating an art show can be a marvelous, magical adventure, if you let the process percolate slowly,” says co-curator Norma Cohen. “You must take the time to look for art with no specific theme. You must take chances, knowing that individual perspectives are an integral part of creativity.”
“The images and various types of media symbolize and depict real and imagined environments that sometimes reflect humor but also perseverance and sensitive issues of life,” adds co-curator David Cudaback. “Each particular setting has been created from an artist’s unique perspective.”
