Oct 27 Tuesday
The Friends of Schoharie Crossing will have their monthly meeting starting at 6PM, followed by the presentation, "Four Kings & a Queen"
In 1710, four Mohawk and Mohican dignitaries travelled to London to meet with Queen Anne, a meeting that would eventually lead to the establishment of Fort Hunter. This program explores English-Native American alliances in early 18th century New York, and the motives behind their mutual cooperation.
This program will be presented by Loretta Tucker, Administrative Assistant & Interpreter at Schoharie Crossing Historic Site. She was previously a Historic Interpreter at Crailo State Historic Site. She received her BA in Anthropology from SUNY Geneseo and attended graduate classes in Anthropology at the University at Albany.
This program will be held inside the Enders House, adjacent to the Visitor Center on Schoharie Street in Fort Hunter. Free, open to the public, refreshments will be provided.
Timber rattlesnakes are important, but often misunderstood, members of our local forests. Join the Housatonic Valley Association and Kent Land Trust on Tuesday, October 27, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., to learn more about the natural history and ecology of this fascinating species, the threats they face, and why connected habitat is so important for their survival.
Participants will learn about HVA’s Follow the Forest initiative and how protecting connected forests helps our local wildlife move safely across the landscape. We’ll separate facts from fiction, talk about what to do if you encounter a timber rattlesnake, and explore ways we can safely share the landscape with them. This program is designed to help participants better understand timber rattlesnakes and hopefully leave with a little more appreciation for one of our region’s native snakes.
The program will be hosted in person at the Kent Town Hall and online via Zoom. Online registrants will be emailed the Zoom link before the program begins.

By combining meaningful Western texts with the aesthetics of Chinese seal carving, the project creates a quiet dialogue across cultures, inviting viewers to reflect on shared values and the beauty of cross-cultural expression.

September 1 - December 5, 2026 Light and Transient CausesIn the 250th anniversary year of the Declaration of Independence, this exhibition takes its name from a line in the document that suggests that some grievances may prove too fleeting to justify revolution—and considers asymmetries of perception of what is deemed light enough to ignore, transient enough to postpone. Curated by Marisa Espe.
