Join Mohawk storyteller Mandy Tarbell for an afternoon of spine-tingling tales perfect for the Halloween season. These traditional stories will keep you on the edge of your seat, with Mandy skillfully tailoring each tale to suit the age of her audience. Included in Museum admission.

Join Ranger Rachel for a fun family event dedicated to some of our spookiest wildlife! Learn how critters viewed as "creepy" by some (spiders, bats, snakes, crows, vultures, and more) play an important role in our ecosystem. The event will include stories, crafts, treats, and even a chance to meet a couple of misunderstood critters yourself!

The New York based Progressive Americana group Nefesh Mountain Band has been hailed as one of the formative boundary-pushing ensembles in roots music. The band’s creators and dynamic husband and wife team of Eric Lindberg and Doni Zasloff have created a world and sound all their own; blurring the lines between Americana, Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz and Blues with a masterful hand as songwriters, instrumentalists and composers alike. The band, declared “A Powerhouse Unit” by Rolling Stone and “Introspective lyrics and world class musicianship” by American Songwriter, takes the listener on a deeply personal journey that embodies their own wild nature and unbridled free spirits, bridging compositional prowess and prolific songwriting with deft instrumentals and jams.

The acclaimed Woodstock Story Festival returns after a hiatus to celebrate story in all its forms, featuring three days (Oct. 24-26) of 15 diverse guest presenters. The festival brings a rich tapestry of stories from talented & masterful performers & artists. Diverse regional through international guest presenters showcase the power & impact of story. Audiences will experience close-up story encounters of every kind.

Skidmore Encore announces registration for its Fall 2025 lecture series delivered by the remarkable Skidmore College faculty for adult learners age 55+ from around the local region. Encore attracts intellectually curious people who are eager to learn. Join us! The 2025 program runs for seven weeks on Tuesdays from September 30 through November 11 in the gorgeous Arthur Zankel Music Center Skidmore College campus. The Norman Rockwell Museum is honored to present a rare series of early twentieth century lighting advertisements by Norman Rockwell and fellow Golden Age illustrators Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, Dean Cornwell, Stanley Arthurs, Worth Brehm, and Charles Chambers created for Edison Mazda Lamps, a division of the General Electric Company. These luminous, richly painted works were widely circulated in published advertisements through the 1920s and are on loan to the Museum for the first time through the generosity of GE Aerospace.

“Once a Tree: Continuity, Creativity, and Connection” explores the deep-rooted significance of trees in Haudenosaunee culture, tradition, and creative expression. Featuring the work of 42 artists and more than 100 objects—including decorative and utilitarian baskets, cradleboards, snowshoes, ladles, lacrosse sticks, toys, instruments, carvings, and sleds—this exhibition highlights the important relationship between nature and artistry. Selected from the Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition was created with guidance from curatorial consultants Terry Chrisjohn III (Oneida), Preston Jacobs (Mohawk), and Sheila Ransom (Mohawk).

"Separated but Unbroken: The Haudenosaunee Boarding School Experience" explores the lasting impact of the Thomas Indian School, once located on the Cattaraugus Reservation south of Buffalo, NY, and The Mohawk Institute near Branford, Ontario. These institutions, which enrolled a significant number of Haudenosaunee students, were part of a larger system that sought to erase Indigenous identities while deeply shaping the lives of those who endured them. Co-curated by Erin Keaton (Mohawk), the exhibition sheds light on Haudenosaunee resilience.

Greetings, art lovers! This year ArtEast is celebrating its 20th year of presenting the ArtEast Open Studio Tour (that’s a lot of art!). This annual art event happens over two weekends: October 18-19 and October 25-26, 11:00am – 5:00pm each day during the most beautiful time of the year in the Hudson Valley. This year's participating artists include artists working across a diverse range of media and styles, with something to impress every visitor. You can see painters, sculptors, photographers, mixed-media, assemblage, woodworking, fiber, pottery – WHEW! That is a lot to see. Luckily studios are open for two weekends so if you run out of time the first weekend you’ve got the following weekend to see the ones you missed.

Another fun aspect to visiting the artists in their studios is you may come across the special treat of viewing live demonstrations by the artists of the techniques they use and apply to their works of art. What a great opportunity to really learn about the rich artistic environment of this area. Within each of these disciplines there is a depth of styles and expressions that each talented artist integrates into their artwork. No matter who you visit, you will be wowed by the level of creativity right here in the Hudson Valley and all within easy driving distance. In addition to being available to share their creative vision with art lovers, all of the artists will have original works of art for sale.

This is a family-friendly, self-guided tour that takes you through the country roads of the Hudson Valley. Need a map and addresses of the artists?
