Sports Report: NHL All-Star Game, NFL Pro Bowl, And Australian Open Champion

NFL:

In the NFL Pro Bowl, Team Irvin beat Ream Rice 49-27. Russell Wilson threw for 164 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions as Team Irvin rolled to a 49-27 victory over Team Rice in the Pro Bowl. Once Wilson left, Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston each threw for over 100 yards and two scores. Allen Robinson and Delanie Walker each hauled in touchdown receptions of more than 50 yards in the third quarter to put Irvin's team well in control.

Meanwhile the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos have arrived in the Bay Area as they continue preparations for Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara. The Broncos are in their second Super Bowl in three years, having lost 43-8 to Seattle in 2014 in New Jersey. Their eight Super Bowl appearances tie the Patriots, Cowboys and Steelers for the most ever. Carolina has been to one Super Bowl, losing to New England in 2004.

NHL:

In the NHL, Brynas IF beat Team Lidstrom 9-6, Team Staal topped Djurgarden IF 4-3, and Brynas IF won against Team Staal 1-0.

Enforcer John Scott scored twice during the NHL's new All-Star Game 3-on-3 tournament and was named MVP by fans after captaining the Pacific Division to a 1-0 win in the championship last night. Fans voted Scott into this event, and he scored twice during the Pacific's first mini-game, bringing cheers from fans and smiles from teammates.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has signed a new contract that runs through 2022. Bettman says the signing took place many months ago. He's been the league's leader since 1993 when it had 24 teams. Now, it has 30 franchises and there may be one or two more in a couple of years. The NHL has had three lockouts under Bettman. The current collective bargaining agreement with the NHL Players' Association expires the same year Bettman's latest contract ends.

NBA:

In the NBA, Golden State topped New York 116-95, Orlando beat Boston 119-114, Dallas bested Phoenix 91-78, Charlotte defeated the Lakers 101-82, Portland trumped Minnesota 96-93, Miami beat Atlanta 105-87, and it was the Clippers over Chicago 120-93.

NCAA:

In college men's basketball, Connecticut beat Central Florida 67-41 yesterday. Shonn Miller scored 11 points, hauled in eight rebounds and had five steals to lead Connecticut. Jalen Adams added 10 points, while Daniel Hamilton, Sterling Gibbs and Rodney Purvis had nine apiece for UConn, which held UCF to just 24 percent shooting and controlled the glass 41-33.

Horse Racing:

The Ortiz brothers each rode a winner in $100,000 stakes for 3-year-old fillies yesterday at Aqueduct. They combined to capture six of the 10 races on the card. Irad Ortiz Jr. had the better afternoon with five wins. He took the Maddie May for New York breds with Frosty Margarita, beating Katniss the Victor, with brother Jose aboard, by a nose.

Tennis:

Novak Djokovic equaled Roy Emerson's long-standing record of six Australian Open titles and increased his career haul to 11 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic is 6-for-6 in Australian Open finals following a 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 victory that sent Andy Murray to a fifth defeat in tournament's title match.

Cycling:

Italian manufacturer Wilier Triestina will sue the Belgian cyclist who used a motor on her bike at the cyclo-cross world championships over the weekend.Company CEO Andrea Gastaldello said he was "stunned" by the news that Femke Van den Driessche competed in the under-23 race with a concealed motor in her bike's frame, and announced that he will take legal action "to safeguard the reputation and image of the company."

Van den Driessche, who became the first cyclist caught for technological doping, denied any wrongdoing, claiming she mistakenly used a friend's bike identical to hers without knowing it had been equipped with a motor.The International Cycling Union has seized her bike for further investigation, and president Brian Cookson said "it's absolutely clear that there was technological fraud."

PGA:

The PGA's Farmers Insurance Open has spilled into Monday. The final round was suspended for the third and final time because of unplayable conditions. Brandt Snedeker emerged as the clubhouse leader when play was halted for good on Sunday, carding a 3-under 69 through a raging wind and occasional rain at Torrey Pines. Jimmy Walker was 7-under with eight holes remaining, one shot ahead of Snedeker and K.J. Choi.

Jordan Spieth finished runner-up at the rain-delayed Singapore Open, losing to South Korea's Song Young-han by one stroke. Spieth sank a five-foot birdie putt on the last hole, where he had marked his ball overnight. The world's No. 1 golfer completed a final round of 5-under 66 to finish at 11-under 273. Song drained a tricky 12-foot par putt on the 16th then made par at the last two holes to win the event at minus-12.

LPGA:

South Korea's Hyo Joo Kim reeled off eight birdies on the way to a 7-under 66 to win the season-opening Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic. It's the third win on the LPGA Tour for the 20-year old. Kim's 18-under total gave her a two-shot victory over Stacey Lewis, Anna Nordqvist and Sei Young Kim.
