Emmy-nominated author, journalist, and critic Amanda Vaill will discuss her new joint biography of Angelica and Elizabeth Schuyler. Two women as formidable as and in some respect stronger than the men they loved, married, and mothered. She will be doing a pair of events in our region; she is the author of “Pride and Pleasure: The Schuyler Sisters in an Age of Revolution.”Amanda Vaill will be in Saratoga Springs tonight at the Northshire Bookstore at 6 pm. She will also be at The Book House at Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany, NY on Saturday December 6th at 2 pm.

Albany Pro Musica performs Rachmaninoff's "All-Night Vigil" at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall 3/6
Albany Pro Musica will be presenting an amazing work sung in Russian, Rachmaninoff's "All-Night Vigil" on Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. at The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. While long planned, the concert is now being presented as a statement in solidarity for the Ukrainian people. Rachmaninoff’s “All Night Vigil,” often referred to as “Vespers,” is one of the most celebrated choral works of all time and is beloved for its profound beauty and spirituality. The concert will open with wonderful Russian music for piano and violin, featuring guest violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn playing the famed “Red Mendelssohn” Stradivarius. We welcome Albany Pro Musica’s Artistic Director José Daniel Flores-Caraballo. He is a widely acclaimed conductor and musical director recognized for his artistry and integrity in stylistic performance of choral literature.

In his one-person show, “Sorry for Your Loss,” comedian Michael Cruz Kayne shares the story of immense grief arriving unexpectedly in his home – and what he’s learned and wants to share about living with the sadness and other surprising emotions that fill in the cracks after the death of someone you love. Kayne is now performing “Sorry for Your Loss” at Audible Theatre's Minetta Lane Theatre through June 10.Kayne is a veteran of the NY comedy scene, was a staff writer on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and a creative consultant for “Billy on the Street.” He is the host of the podcast “A Good Cry.”

Celebrated clarinetist Graeme Steele Johnson returns to the Stissing Center in Pine Plains, N.Y., tonight at 7pm, with his program Fleeting Inventions. With music written for Benny Goodman, a new work by American composer Marc Mellits, and the seldom-heard original version of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet, the program traces fortuitous relationships between composers and clarinetists throughout history.
