WCC Names New President

For the first time in more than four decades, a community college in New York will have a new president.

Dr. Belinda Miles, current administrator at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, was appointed Thursday to lead Westchester Community College. Miles, originally from Queens, has more than 30 years’ experience in higher education, primarily at the community college level. She was selected after a national search and succeeds Dr. Joseph Hankin, the nation’s longest serving community college president, who led the college for 42 years, since 1971. Hankin last year announced his retirement. Dr. John Flynn, the college’s former vice president of Academic Affairs, has been serving as interim president. He will stay on in this role until Miles begins leading the college in January.
