The Special Olympics Vermont President and CEO has stepped down after a year.

VTSO board chairman James Godfrey confirmed Friday Sue Minter had resigned. The Times Argus reports Minter will remain in her role through the end of the year to help with the transition.

Minter says she's proud of what the program has accomplished under her tenure. She says the organization has raised its profile and made advancements in providing health care for participants.

Minter ran as a Democrat in the 2016 Vermont race for governor and lost to Republican Governor Phil Scott. She served as Vermont Transportation Secretary and as a member of the state House as well.

Minter says she's excited to get back to working in public policy.
