Former Commissioner of the New York State Office of General Services John Egan has died.
A public servant of more than 50 years, Egan worked under 7 governors. Among his roles, he served as executive director of the New York State Dormitory Authority , state Transportation Commissioner, and CEO of the Albany County Airport Authority. He was 86.
Several Albany area officials expressed sorrow over Egan’s death.
Capital Region Congressman Paul Tonko remembered Egan saying, “Many leaders in our state relied on John's talents, and New York has been made a stronger place because of his love for public service and dedication as a community builder.”
Egan had a hand in the construction of the Empire State Plaza, Harriman office complex, and a major expansion at the Albany International Airport.
