Former First Lady Laura Bush recently toured the historic estate of the late author and humanitarian Edith Wharton in Lenox, Massachusetts. The Mount says Bush visited June 19th. As honorary chair of The Mount’s National Committee, the former first lady has returned to the 50-acre estate many times over the past several years, walking the gardens and viewing the library. Susan Wissler is the Mount’s executive director.
“We tend not to discuss politics, but we talk about world issues,” Wissler said. “We talked about her children and the amazing work that her daughter Barbara is doing with respect to trying to improve world health and the foundation that she started. We talked about Jenna and the fact that Jenna is expecting her second child.”
In 2005, President and Mrs. Bush presented the Preserve America Presidential Award to The Mount in the Rose Garden of the White House.
