Fischer: Albany Wrong Place For Undocumented Children

A Capital Region Republican congressional candidate is disagreeing with a plan by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that could house the children of illegal immigrants in Albany.

Federal authorities are considering Albany’s former Kenwood Academy as a potential location to house some of the tens of thousands of undocumented children who enter the U.S. from Central America each year, while they await processing.

20th District Congressional candidate Jim Fischer, a Republican, said he does believe the children should be sent across the country.

“This is a crisis and it needs to be resolved,” said Fischer. “I think the president and the Secretary of State have said that they’re going to send the children back, and that is what needs to take place. They need to be sent back, and gotten back to their hometowns safely, and then we have got to secure the borders.”

Fischer is running against incumbent Democrat Rep. Paul Tonko.
