WIth heat advisories issued for many regions across the Northeast, some municipalities are opening cooling stations.
Heat index values are expected to approach 100 degrees.
The City of Troy is activating cooling stations in four neighborhood locations Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m.
Hudson's Central Fire Department station has opened a cooling shelter through Thursday from noon to 9 p.m.
Officials with the New York State Fair in Syracuse say they've opened several additional cooling stations and added Thursday as another Senior Day, allowing seniors to enjoy a free day at the fair on a day when the heat is expected to be lower.
Fairgoers are being instructed to dial 911 or approach any State Trooper or Fair employee if they notice someone experiencing signs or symptoms of heat illness including:
- Headache
- Lightheadedness
- Muscle cramps
- Nausea
- Vomiting
