Next Saturday’s annual holiday parade in Schenectady is themed around the global company that would shape the upstate city after its founding more than a century ago.

This year the Daily Gazette’s Holiday Parade is called “Parade of Lights: 125 Years of Schenectady” and will commemorate the 125th anniversary of General Electric.

Thousands are expected to pack the city’s downtown and streets along the route will be closed for the parade. The event, billed as one of the largest holiday parades in the Northeast, will kick off at 5 p.m. near Schenectady County Community College on lower State Street.

NOTE: A previous version of this post had included the wrong date for the parade. It will occur on Saturday, November 18th.
