Berkshire Museum Delays Some Of Art Planned For Auction

Sotheby's
Norman Rockwell's "Shuffleton's Barbershop" published for sale in a Sotheby's catalog released Friday.

The Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts is delaying the Sotheby’s sale of some of its artwork.

The Berkshire Museum has said it won’t stop its controversial plan to auction off 40 objects to fund an expansion and endowment.

Fourteen objects were originally scheduled for sale November 13th at Sotheby’s. That number is now down to seven.

Two artworks by Norman Rockwell – “Shuffleton’s Barbershop” and “Shaftsbury Blacksmith Shop” – are still included, according to a Sotheby’s catalog released Friday.

A law firm working on behalf of the three sons of Norman Rockwell is hoping to halt the sale until the state attorney general’s office weighs in.
